In a recent Attorney General ruling the city of Southaven’s anti-gun aldermen and mayor were forced to restore residents gun rights. For years when local residents wanted to enjoy a concert at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven they were forced to check their legally owned and legally carried guns at the door.
The city of Southaven had illegally placed “no gun” signs at the entrance threatened citizens with arrest if they attempted to exercise their legal right to carry a firearm for self defense. Mississippi Gun News was made aware of this illegal anti-gun policy by a local citizen who wanted nothing more than to have his city officials follow the law.
In July of 2014 Governor Bryant signed into law, HB314 which clarifies that the Governor or any other official or employee of the State may not interfere with the right of citizens to possess firearms. It also clarified that counties and municipalities may not interfere with the right of citizens to possess firearms.
