Beaudry posts 93.2 SV %, Kings stop Brahmas
Ryan Campbell scored a pair of goals and Miguel Beaudry made 41 saves to help the Memphis RiverKings to their second straight win over the Fort Worth Brahmas at the DeSoto Civic Center Friday night.
The win moved the RiverKings to within one game of the .500 mark at 5-6-0 and also sent Fort Worth to their third straight defeat.
Ryan Watson got the scoring going early with a power play goal at 1:57 of the first period on the power play. It would be the first of three power play goals and four special teams goals for the RiverKings. It was also just the fourth time in the 11 games that the RiverKings have scored first.
Fort Worth would come back later in the period with the equalizer from Wes Mason at 15:22. For the second straight night, Memphis outscored the Brahmas by two in the second period. Campbell’s first of the night came shorthanded at 2:58. Campbell stole the puck at his blue line and won the race the other way to beat rookie netminder Keni Gibson for a 2-1 lead. Less than six minutes later, Campbell struck again, this time on the power play. After Travis Banga added his third goal in three games and his sixth of the season at 17:40 of the second, Memphis had built a 4-2 and, much like last night’s 3-2 win, would be able to withstand a Fort Worth uprising in the third to hold on for 4-3 win.
The RiverKings went three for five on the power play while the Brahmas went one for 11. Beaudry won his second straight with a 41 save performance.
Before the game, Memphis signed second year center Chris Ferguson and waived forward Simon Rizk. Ferguson started the season with the Richmond Riverdogs and had one assist in five games before being waived. Rizk had seen limited playing time in the first 10 games registering 7 PIM. Ferguson dressed and made his RiverKings debut in the game tonight.
Memphis hits the road for a game with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tomorrow night at 7:05 in Bossier City. The game will be simulcast on 96.1 FM and 1240 AM due to an Ole Miss Football conflict on Sports 56 WHBQ.
